Entertainment Alternatives in Honolulu, HI

Honolulu is filled with historic buildings and treasured monuments, such as the Iolani Palace: The only royal palace on US soil, where King Kalakaua and his successor Queen Lili'uokalani used to reside. World-class shopping and a flourishing arts and culture scene also meet in Honolulu: The Bishop Museum, Honolulu's museum of natural and cultural history, holds millions of artifacts, documents and photos regarding Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures, and live, interactive presentations and exhibit tours are offered daily. Minutes away is the Waikiki Aquarium, containing over 2,500 organisms from 420 species, including the state fish, the humuhumunukunukuapuaa.

While Hawaii does not have any professional sports teams, there are still plenty of sports to get excited about. The Honolulu Marathon occurs every year on the second Sunday of December, bringing together thousands of runners (Many of whom carry cameras, as the scenery on the route is spectacular). There were 24,575 finishers in 2006, placing Honolulu as the sixth-largest marathon in the world, and third largest in the United States. The World Ironman Triathalon Championships also take place in Honolulu. Hawaii's 'home team', the University of Hawaii, participates in many sports, including softball, football, basketball, and soccer, receiving tremendous support for all of them.
